Basketball Play - 4-Out, 1-In Motion Offense --
"52-Curl"
From the Coach’s Clipboard Basketball Playbook, @ http://www.coachesclipboard.net
We run this play out of the "4-Low" set (4-out motion offense) against man-to-man defense. We like this play when we have good athletic O2 who can shoot or attack the basket. This really is a very simple play, but if executed well, is very effective.
Using the 4-out offense allows for more spacing inside for the pass and shot. We start with O5 on the right low block area. O2 cuts down inside along the baseline, underneath O5, suddenly stops and then curl-cuts over O5 for the pass and short turn-around jump shot.
The entry pass could come directly from O1. If you find that the play is clogged up due to O4's defender dropping into helpside, then the next time, have O1 pass to O3 and let O3 make the pass to O2. Passing the ball to O3 will tend to keep the X4 defender outside on O4 (as O4 is now just one pass away).
If the X5 defender switches the screen and follows O2 (to the opposite block), O5 immediately posts-up the smaller X2 defender looking for the quick pass and chance to score.
