Outside Play.   Receiving the pass when the defender is playing off.   There are two ways to catch the pass on the perimeter, depending on whether the defender is playing off you, or up closely. Always, you want to end up in triple threat position. Here the defender is playing off. The receiver comes toward the ball and "jumps behind" the pass landing a jump stop, in triple threat position. Either foot could become the pivot foot.

We teach then that the left foot (for a right-handed player) becomes the pivot foot, anywhere on the court. Some coaches teach that the inside foot becomes the pivot foot, so that on the left side of the court, the right foot would be the pivot foot.
