Today's Theme... 2-Minute Full-Court Transition Lay-up Drill

This 2-minute drill comes from coach Teri Moren, Indiana Univ head womens' coach.  See the video below.

Run this drill for 2-minutes.  All players are in two lines at one end (diagram 1), with a rebounding coach (blue) under each basket.  O1 and O2 are wide on the sidelines.  Coach passes to O1 who is allowed one dribble and then passes up to O2 sprinting sideline and cutting to the hoop for a lay-up.  Coach rebounds. O1 sprints to the free-throw line and then wide up the right sideline.  After the lay-up, O2 sprints wide for the outlet pass from the coach (diagram 2), makes one dribble, and passes forward to O1 cutting to the hoop for the lay-up.  These two players go to the ends of the lines, as the next group starts.

Energy, hustle is demanded with player sprinting and passers calling out the receiver's name. Count aloud each lay-up. Make a goal of a certain number made in the two minutes. Make the goal realistic but tough, requiring players to sprint hard and only a rare missed lay-up. If they fail to make the goal, you can have them run sprints, or just run the drill again.
